Turn A Broken Basket Into A Dog Bed

Yes, Sofie has another bed basket. 

Unfortunately this large basket got crushed

in the garage.

 Not wanting to rush things and throw it out

like a normal person would, I thought about

how to repurpose it.

 

We needed to replace the front. Before 

we cut out the front I added glue to the

end splints to hold them in place. 

 Used a small saw to cut out the front.

 The ends will be covered with the wood.

 Larry found a scrap piece of plywood and 

cut it to fit and also cut a scoop to create a

easy entry for Sofie. I'm thinking of

stenciling her name on the front, or

"dog blessed"

 This is definitely a rustic/shabby project. 

Meaning I didn't want to fuss with it. 

I just rubbed the front with mineral oil.

 It brought out the wood tones plus it's 

non-toxic. I use it to condition the wood on 

my kitchen island as well as a few projects. 

Again, it's the easiest and fastest thing to do.

 The best part about this basket is that it is 

the right size for a standard pillow. I have a 

stack of old pillowcases, so I can change her 

bedding weekly, or just flip the pillow over

 for another week .

 This one is a blue and white stripe. 

 I put it in the family room to see

if she would get in on her own.

 She did! Time for a nap.

Bring Out The Americana Decor!

 The RED, WHITE, and BLUE accessories 

are out again for the summer Patriotic 

holidays. Here's the breakfast table. 

The 50¢ thrifted USA bear is helping with

the Americana theme.

 Everything is on the picket fence runner

 that I moved over from the sofa table.

 The antique red scale is in the center.

 These scrap ball are just a way to repurpose

 my old tennis balls. 

 Mixing red, white, and blue dishes. 

I knew the red $1.00 teapot would

see lots of use. 

 I save these mini jam jars to repurpose for

individual salt and pepper shakers. I can put

 a set at each place setting. The red gingham

tops are so cute! How could I toss them? 

 I just use a nail to punch the holes.

They fit nicely in this Longaberger business 

card basket which makes passing the S&P 

easy. It's all just the right size for the bear.

MAY Sofa Table

Just moved a few things around for May.

 Using different combinations of things I have:

picket fence pieces, MAY decoupaged letters,

thrifted wire basket, vintage aqua Ball jar, 

thrifted stack of encyclopedia books, 

Longaberger basket, pothos plant, birdhouse,

  apothecary jar filled with blue and white 

porcelain balls, clear Ball jar filled with cobalt

 pebbles. Click on any of the blue highlighted

The large Longaberger baskets hold tons of

napkins collected over the years. Posted

 It's fun to gather this-and-that from around

the house, storage, or patio to create a 

different vignette in just a few minutes.

I'm keeping my wine glass charms handy in

The pothos is THE easiest houseplant ever! 

I have several in the house and they are 

indestructible. If you need something alive
and green, this is the plan for you.

Using My Longaberger Baskets!

If you've been a visitor to my blog you've
probably noticed my Longaberger basket
collection at work, my very large collection
of Longaberger. Anyone that been a sales
 rep knows what I'm talking about.
I was my own best customer!. 

Here are some baskets at work in my house.

The stack of baskets at the end of the counter
are great extra storage.

This stack of baskets holds extra picnic
supplies, like paper plates, utensils, as well as
the seasonal fabric liners for these baskets.

I always have cocktail napkins in 

this small berry basket. They rotate

with the seasons. 

Paper napkins are handy in a large

berry basket

 Salt & Pepper at the table.

 Remotes, reading glasses, pens, scissors, 

pad of paper are kept handy on the
family room end table. 

 This one holds my chalk and eraser.

 Oils, vinegars, and a few essentials.

 The items in this basket change often.

 I have 2 small baskets hanging on a cabinet
 knob below the drinking glass cabinet. 

 They work great as a drink caddy/coaster. 

It insulates and keeps the ice and drink 

colder twice as long. #science #fact

It also protects table surfaces. 

I have little engraved brass splint tags

so that Larry and I can keep track of 

who's drink is who's. 

 The hall tree leading out to the garage has

 baskets for everything we need when we 

come and go; sunglasses, keys, wallet, etc.

 "It's in the basket" is the answer to most of

the "where is_____?" question. Although that 

usually doesn't narrow down the search. 

A recipe basket for my hand written cards.

I have fabric liners for summer, fall,

Halloween, and Christmas. Most of

my basket get a 'wardrobe' change

for the seasons.

The basket on top of the dryer in the 

laundry room holds dryer sheets.

The antique chamber pot is used to 

hold dry detergent or Borax.

A cup hook under the cabinet hold a small
basket filled with clothespins.

 Tissue basket...I think there's one
in every room.

 Bread basket used here for hand towels.

 Basket filled with small guest hand towels.

But, I also use them for fun. 

They are so pretty and such a classic look.

Here we are all set for a canoe ride on the 

lake behind our house. I'm using the picnic 

basket and wine tote. I've used the medium

 garters many times for different accents

 around the brim of my straw hats. 

Baskets...love looking at them and 

love using them.
