Expecting Too Much From Cilantro

Here's where my story begins.
I start with a small cilantro plant and
it grows into this beauty.
I was happily adding fresh chopped cilantro to my Mexican dishes.
The taste of cilantro grows on you.
Soon my cilantro starts to looks pathetic and begans to die.
My oregano continues to grow.
What am I doing wrong? My other herbs were thriving.

the farmers market listened to my story.
Sitting on the tailgate of his pick-up truck,
he tilted his hat back and said
"you're expecting too much from cilantro."
There you have it. It's not me, it's you.
I think there's a life lesson here.

Cheers!

  1. Oh I love his diagnosis, lol. Maybe that is what is wrong with all of my plants that die, I'm expecting too much?

  5. Aside from the life lesson which is great, cilantro is short lived, bolts quickly and simply needs to be reseeded regularly for continuous growth and enjoyment. Learned this after loads of my beautiful herb became a useless mess.

  8. I have the WORST luck with herbs. I just posted last week about my dying parsley and basil.... darn! I love the way they look and smell indoors.

  9. You're not doing anything wrong. Cilantro doesn't like warm weather. Here's a good link.https://www.vegetablegardener.com/item/2617/how-to-grow-cilantro
I haven't tried to grow it~just basil and parsley. I would cut all the cilantro back when it looks great and save it by drying. Your other herbs look great!

  14. There you have it..how funny. Cilantro is one of the few herbs I can do without. It always tastes like soap to me. Guess it's an acquired taste.
Good luck and keep gardening. Your herbs look fresh and yummy.
    Have a great weekend,

  15. LOL! That's funny!

The only time I had luck with cilantro was when I planted it in spot that got some shade.
