Island Legs

I've always wanted to add legs to the
bottom of my kitchen island.
I wanted it to look more like a piece of
furniture, and less like a basic builders
island made of cabinets.
Without the legs.
We had already painted the cabinets a
bright blue and added the salvaged
butcher block top. (see This Post
I drew a template of a curved leg onto
some wood we found in the garage.
Larry cut it out and we painted it with
leftover paint from the island project.
 4 inches high.
We cut 8 pieces to make the 4 legs.
It was a quick project.
No cost and a little time gave me the look
I wanted. Just a little something we
MAY'd toDAY.

Have a great week!

Happy Weekend Cake

A reminder.....
Every good weekend starts off with a cake.
I get to use my vintage cake tin.
I found it treasure hunting in Delray Beach HERE.
 It's a Root Beer Cake
That's just the right flavor for a summer weekend.
It's moist and has just a hint of spices and root beer.

Have a Happy Weekend!

Vintage Chicken Feeder Dish Rack

I can't tell you how excited I was to find
this old trough chicken feeder !
I've always wanted one to use as a
dish display rack.
on our last road trip.
I cleaned it well and sprayed it with poly.
First I had it on the bar counter by the sink.
Then I removed all the dishes and moved it
to the island to see how it would look there.
First I moved everything off the butcher block top
and gave the wood a good mineral oil rub-down.
I like it better on the island.
I added a basket to the end and filled it
with a bouquet of rolling pins.
I filled it all up with an assortment of my
blue and white plates.

My Granola

I like a very basic granola.
No coconut and no raisins for me.
That's why I make my own.
It's crunchy and a good hearty quick breakfast.
It's filled with oatmeal and  nuts,
and sweetened with honey and
brown sugar with just a touch of cinnamon.
I can grab a handful for a quick energy snack.
You can always add slices of your favorite fresh fruit
or a scoop of raisins.
I like slices of banana.
That's my favorite way.

Have it your way!

Rug or No Rug

I remove the area rug from under the glass table in the breakfast area every fall.
Rug
No rug
I like the floor bare...
for a while.

The rug has a spring and summer look.
It does not work well with my Fall decorations,
 or my Christmas decorations.
Then I tire of the bare floor and want the rug back.
First I scrub the grout and wash the tile floors.
Then I bring back the shampooed rug.
 Lucky is my rug inspector.
It usually takes a few days to lay flat.
Rug in place.
Princess is helping me accessorize.
There! That's what it needed.
A little pop of yellow
with her favorite squeaky toy.

In and out! Out then in! like so many of my things.
Cheers!

The Sounds In The House

I love hearing the sounds of my house things
 working away.
The churn of the bread machine.
The soft drip of the coffee maker.
The hum of the dishwasher.
The slosh of the washing machine.
The tumble of the dryer.
They are all homey sounds that I find comforting. If they are all going at once, like this morning,
 it's a symphony!
I even like the sound of the electric saw and drill because that means we're working on a project.

Enjoy Your Day!
