Ribbon Candle Rings

I didn't have any candle rings or bobeches 

to match my new red, white and blue summer

 all-American decor...so I made some.

These are mini wreaths made with things I had on hand:

 wire clothes hanger and a few scraps of ribbon.

 Cut the hanger into about 4" pieces and 

shape into a circle.

It will give you a circle of about 1"D....

(pi x D) if you're a 'math genius' or 

married to one.

Conversation goes like this:

math genius: how big do you want the circle?

me: about this big (holding up a bobeche).

math genius: to get a 1-1/4"D circle I'll

 need to cut a 4"piece, 

pi=3.1416 x diameter desired.

me: fine (yikes!)

 Anyway....back to the fun part. 

I cut lots of ribbon onto small pieces. 

I just eyeballed it here. 

If the ribbon is too wide I cut it in half lengthwise. 

 Then I just tied them on

 until it was nice and full.

 randomly!

 Here they are decorating the base of my

 candles. Very festive.

This is the counter tray vignette for summer....

very patriotic!

Handmade Nightie Quilt

What do you do with your favorite comfy-soft 

nightshirts when they are getting 

a little too worn?

You do what my friend Cathy did.

 You cut them up and make a quilt. 

 She cut hers into 8" squares and hand 

stitched them together.

 Then she uses an old blue and white 

ticking sheet for the back.

Then she filled it with batting and quilted 

the corners using old buttons.

Then she found herself a comfy spot and a good book.

A Summer Patio Coffee Table

A South Florida summer patio needs to be 

low maintenance and heat tolerant.

 A few tropical elements are all that's needed.

 A wire basket filled with oyster shells.

Up-cycling from oyster appetizers!

 A few found shells.

A large pot of colorful bromeliads.

On top of the dresser is a small pot

filled with herb markers tucked into

 the pine cone filled basket.

The twiggy wreath hangs on the salvaged

 window. I tossed a pair of colorful garden

 gloves over the top.

I'm using them as a 'bow'.

They were $1.00 at The Dollar Tree.

I know, I know, the poinsettia is leftover

 from Christmas. But it's still thriving 

and grows well down here. I'm thinking

  Red-White & Blue for summer.

May Mug Shots

May is almost over! 

 I filled a vase with bougainvillea clippings

 from hedge trimming this morning.

 May mugs at the coffee station are 

the Villeroy & Boch Botanica.

 Each of the pieces has a different flower.

 Tea set

 The mugs have a lavender flower.

 The afternoon dessert is part of my

 'pie quest'.

I'm looking for the perfect chocolate pie. 

They're all good, but I'm holding out for  

~~~~~chocolate heaven~~~~~ 

Meanwhile, Larry has been my willing taster.

Easiest-Ever-No-Cost Coffee Filter Wreath

You can make a pretty wreath in no time
with things you would normally throw away.

I just rinse and let dry my used coffee filters

until I have enough. This wreath took 

about 75 filters.

I used a wire hanger and shaped it into 

a circle. I did a heart this way for my 

Valentine's Heart Rag Wreath

Stapling them on was the easiest way. 

No messy glue.

Poke the middle with your finger and scrunch.

Fold the tip over the wire. 

Staple on.

 Push together as you go.

I used the hanger's hook to hang the wreath.

I added a salvaged ribbon to the hook.

I like the look of the coffee-stained filters

 I could also hang it on the front of a cabinet.

 Or on the window pane tomirrors above

 the cobbler's bench in the living room.

I may need to make another one!

 This wreath was a fast and easy project.

Even easier than my last coffee filter wreath

and I didn't have to buy a thing!
