My No-Cost Fern Hanging Baskets

Here are the no-cost hanging fern baskets
I made for my patio using stuff from my yard.
I have 6 hanging baskets on my patio that
needed new everything; new plants, and
new coco liners. That can get pricy-
$60 for the liners alone.
I thought I'd try to make my own with material
I had in my yard. It wouldn't cost me a thing!
I used the dried palm tree bark.
Not really the hard bark, but the soft
material we trim off the top.
I lined the metal hanging baskets with bark
to cover all around the inside.
I trimmed the edge with scissors.
The Boston fern has taken over our yard,
so we just dug up a bunch.
I filled plastic pots with potting soil
and the ferns and dropped them in
the palm bark lined baskets.
They should be low maintenance and
last a long time.
Not bad for a FREEbie!
It's been several months now and they are all thriving.

Cheers!

Blogging On The Patio

I've blogged on the porch in New Jersey,
on the deck in North Carolina and now
here on the patio at home in  Florida.
The weather is too nice to be inside.
My beloved doggies loved to keep me
company. I miss Lucky....this was in his favorite spot.
Lucy is in her favorite spot.
She loves warming herself in the sun.
My sweet Princess always loved
spending time outside. I still 'see' her there.
A pot with bougainvillea  in bloom.
Most of my orchids are blooming.

My favorite! A stunning cattleya from
my BF Cathy.
Every Florida garden needs fun
pink flamingos. These two are stuck
into a pot of Boston ferns.
It will soon be too hot, so I'm enjoying
 these perfect Spring days.

Cheers!

Resolutions

I don't need to make a lot of New Year's
resolutions for 2012 because I still have a lot
left over from last year.
One that I want to renew is to take time
for afternoon tea and a good read more often.
Another is to spend more time on the patio.
Red poinsettias get a new look
in a blue and white pot.
They brighten the patio.
Add some here and there.
I'll also try to propagate more orchids.
 Take a cue from Lucy.
Find a sunny spot and enjoy.

Cheers!

Still Blooming...

It's been more than two months.....
and my orchid is still blooming.....
I bought it from a roadside vendor
the first week of August.
It spent some time on the breakfast table
and now it's in the living room......
I added it to the vignette.
That's a lot of flower for $12.
I love orchids.
With luck this one should re-bloom for years.

Cheers!

Touch of Fall Color

The leaves are changing here,
but only on my table.
I'm bringing a little fall color to
South Florida.
I had to bring in my blooming orchid.
It has just started to bloom and
will be full of flowers soon.
Royal Worcester~Evesham china.
 My rattan chargers.
Pear and apple salt & pepper set
in a small Longaberger basket.
 Harvest painted goblets from
the Dollar Store, years ago.
Amber goblets from Walmart.
 Leaf plates from Walmart too.
A thrift store pumpkin tea pot.
Bringing it all back again for fall.
 A clay wine brique.
I put the brique in the freezer
until its ice cold.
It's great for keeping the wine chilled
at the table.
