Just a short time ago there was no Google.
There was Webster
Having your own dictionary was required.
Having a leather bound edition was a special gift.
The one with the gold page edges and finger notches.
The one that's personalized with your name in gold.
Receiving it as a scholastic award.
1724 very thin pages.
Looking up all your words.
If your name is May.
Perhaps looking up May Day.
In the future you can just Google it.
But this one will always have "meaning"
Treasure your small treasures.

I am so thankful for Google, I go to it all the time but yes, I still treasure my dictionary too! Come say hi :D
ReplyDeleteOh, you've reminded me of my beautiful diccionary too! The gold in the finials of the pages sometimes would even come out a little! My hubby's got his too, given when he graduated 6th. grade, elementary school. Although, I do love Google, I treasure these beautiful things full of memmories of simpler times...not to long ago. Thank you for sharing it. Lots of hugs, Fabby
ReplyDeleteIsn't that funny Rita May how fast technology is changing things? Our middle school is possibly getting ipads and phasing out textbooks. A lot has changed in the last ten years. Thanks for linking this up to Home Sweet Home!
