Using My Quilts

I have a small collection of quilts.
This antique quilt's pattern is called
Drunkard's Path or sometimes Drunken Path
It's peach and white and I've had it since
my daughter Kim was in high school.
It was on her antique white iron bed.
(I still have that too.)
Now I have it draped over the back of the
white sofa in the living room.
I previously used this antique red and white
quilt for Christmas thru winter.
See those pictures HERE and HERE.
This pattern is Carolina Lily.
This one is for Spring and Summer.
I have several antique quilts that I found
at flea markets when we lived in Illinois.
Flea-ing was a monthly passion.
Cheers!

  1. I love quilts! They look stunning on the back of your sofa! My husband's cousin is making one for me, I can't wait to see it!

    Have a great day!

  2. I love the Christmas quilt. Thanks for letting us know the name of pattern. It's so beautiful. I've been found out, I'm one of those lurkers, just about everyday I find something new on your blog that inspires. By the way, I live in Schaumburg and know the flea market you are referring to. Looks like you found some beauties!

  3. Hi Rita! Oh, that is a lovely quilt and the pattern is unique. I haven't seen it often. Love the colors for summer. The other quilt you used is gorgeous too! There's just something about pretty quilts!
    Hope you're doing well.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  4. Just found some Country Living mags from the '90s in my garage and have been enjoying them immensely - one picture that really popped was the drunken path quilts that hung on a couple of walls. Beautiful. It's nice to know what the pattern is called, too.
I have a small collection of quilts made by great grandmothers. They are treasures that I use and display as well.

  5. Sober in AA for 31 years now, I *love* the Drunkard's Path pattern, and have combined it with Ohio Star (Akron is where Alcoholics Anonymous got its start) to make my own pattern. Quilts are wonderful for telling stories, aren't they?

(As a side note, I'm posting this anonymously not because I'm ashamed of my alcoholism, but out of respect for, and in compliance with, AA's 11th Tradition, which states that we maintain our personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, films and television. I consider this venue to be press, therefore no picture accompanies my comment.)

  8. I just have started my journey of bringing quilts in to my home. I did make a quilt, only 1, I picked a very difficult quilt for the first one and honestly still use it everyday, just don't want to make another. I have purchased two quilts in the last year. And love the warmth and character they bring. Your quilts are quite beautiful. Love the drunken quilt one. Thanks for sharing you creative inspiration at Sunday's Best Par.tay!

  12. Your drunkard's path is beautiful! I made quilts for both my boys (one was a drunkard's path) when the graduated from HS; sadly, both disappeared:(

  13. I love quilts although I don't decorate with them. I do have several, most of which were made either by my grandmother, mother, or MIL. I loved using them to make "pallets" on the floor when my children and grandchildren were babies. So comfy and colorful! I love your peach and white quilt...so pretty.

  16. Love the quilt!

As a quilter myself, I urge you to use your lovely antique quilts with care since they're wonderfully old, have more fragile fabrics, and have such beautiful stitching patterns.

Also, be sure to keep all quilts out of direct sunlight as daily exposure to sunlight weakens fibers and can fade colors.

    Cheers!
