A Wee Bit O' Green

Last week I found three green books 

about Ireland at a yard sale for $2.00.

 Perfect timing.

I added them to my spring green

 St. Patrick's vignette on the sofa table.

 Under a cloche.

 I added a few white china bunnies, 

also found at the sale for $1.00 a pair.

 Brown clay eggs on a straw nest under

a thrifted cheese dome.

I painted this clay pot in 2005 when I 

tried 'one-stroke' painting.

 I brought in my purple spotted orchid 

and plopped it in. This is the longest

 blooming orchid I have ever had! 

I first posted about it in August...
and it's still blooooming!

 A tower of thrift shop tea cups. 

I tossed a green, yellow and white

thrifted crocheted afghan across the 

back of the couch.

Another seasonal change.

Lucky slept thru the whole process. I

think he's used to this commotion.

An Overdue February Review

I hope everyone enjoyed their extra day 

last month. I think it should be a holiday. 

Mark the occasion with a new tradition.

 Make it a day to do or to try something

for the first time.

First I changed the kitchen cabinet for 

Valentine's decor of red, white and hearts.

I cut-up a vinyl heart tablecloth and used it to

cover the back of my kitchen cabinet, then 

added my heart dishes to use for the month.

 I Valentine-ized the kitchen by adding lots of red and white. 

 I added a fireplace to my blog to cozy up a rainy day.

 Quick and easy homemade tomato soup and

 a grilled cheese sandwich was 

the perfect Rainy Day Lunch.

 I made a very simple garland from heart paper doilies and ribbon.

 I made this easy and sentimental
  heart rag wreath.

Heart-shaped waffles for Valentine's Day breakfast.

 The kitchen cabinet before the Valentine's switcheroo.

 Made traditional German kreppel
 to celebrate Fastnacht / Fat Tuesday.

 My perfect anniversary gift was found at......

 I took you for a virtual lunch to eat 

the best burgers in the USA.

Found lot's of great goodies at the GW.

The 'Perfect' Dinner

My idea of the perfect dinner is 

Roast Chicken.

I roast a chicken at least a

 couple of times a month. It's the 'secret'
quick cooking recipe. It takes just minutes to
prepare and little time paying attention to it.
Plus there's enough for another meal
 later in the week.
 Let's face it, going out takes more effort.

It has everything I love in a dinner.

                                                  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

• It's easy and delicious.
• It cooks happily by itself in the oven for over an hour while I do something else.
• It makes the house smell wonderful.
• It's our comfort food. It's the first dinner we crave when we return from a trip.
• There are great leftovers for sandwiches, chicken salad, or a casserole.
• The leftover bones and carcass make great soup.
• The two of us will get several meals out of it. Each one different.

It has endless variations.

That's why it's always in my menu rotation.
Roast two at a time for larger families.

March Kitchen Cabinet

I changed the paper on the back of my kitchen cabinet again.

I change the dishes we use daily, so it's a 

quick change of the background paper too.

This is how I do it.

 I remove the dishes and shelves.

I found this big roll of green and white paper

for only 25 cents after Christmas at Target.

I don't think it looks Christmas-y and it's the

exact width of the cabinet. 

So cut and tape and in it goes.

In go the dishes for March.

A few plates are displayed in the back.

Cups go on the hooks.

 I'll leave this paper up for Easter too. 

It's a good spring green color.

 The ivory dishes are Longaberger. 

They have a classic blue edge, but

 you don't notice that on the higher shelves.

The 9x13 and 8x8 casseroles and 

two platters sit on wrought iron stands.

 The top left shelf holds 4 green enameled 

covered crocks that I found for

 $1 in a thrift store in NC.

Lucky 13, my Dad's favorite number.

March Mug Shots and Printable

White and green botanical mugs are back
again for March. (Portmeirion)

An old tart pan that I've sprayed ivory is 

 being used as a tray for two old ball jars.

One jar holds foil packets of 

Constant Comment tea bags.

The larger is filled with my homemade

 granola. A small green trimmed Longaberger

 basket stores extra coffee filters.

The vintage green and white checked apron 

is another one MAY-d by my MIL.

I bought a green and white double mat at Michael's.

I MAY reuse the frame over and over. 

Just change the printable and have a few extra mats.
